Barney, the full moon, respect, and black mirror scrying.

The last upload was a ritual meant to obtain a spirit animal.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yaewlg-35H8  <---- Watch Here

You can read a little bit about the general idea of a spirit animal or familiar at the following link.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar_spirit\

Now onto the snacks. I have left food for Barney twice, both times the food offered was corn chips. I've thought about Barney many times throughout each day so far and tried speaking out loud to him as if he was listening or nearby. Tonight I'll be asking Barney to watch over me while I sleep and I'll be instructing him politely to wake me up at a specific time. I'll let you all know how that turns out.

As for the dream log so far the only dream I've had that is somewhat related was actually a dream about a large bird of prey (not an owl) killing one of the chickens we raise. In the dream I killed the offending bird shortly afterwards. I dont believe its related due to the lack of an owl and the fact that large birds of prey often kill young chickens if theyre being raised free range and I had discussed that scenario before going to bed that night.

Next topic in line is the full moon. Lunar phases have a long occult history and I've been waiting for the full moon this month so let me know if you have any experiments that involve that particular (or really any) lunar phase. I'll likely be enchanting a black scrying mirror tomorrow night but the experiment might be something else. Enchanting the mirror requires the moons phase to be full but using the mirror doesnt so I could enchant it and do something else then use the mirror some other night for a particular scrying experiment.

In other news I wanted to discuss the origins of magic, demons, sigils, etc.

One might make a correlation between a grimoire and, for example, a religious text. But regardless they both have an origin. Whether its the word of a god handed down to man or if its one great mage who communed with demons. Both of them make it clear that the knowledge on their pages came from a supernatural source. Whether divine or demonic most religious / magical / occult texts state that their origin is distinctly outside of man.

At some moment, some point in time, mankind discovers or learns of their God, their dietys, their demons. They arent born knowing they exist. If it werent a matter of learning, if it was inborn, wouldnt every culture create the same gods and demons?

So assuming that every supernatural being has an origin at which it lets mankind know it exists, can it be respected before that moment?

For example - Lets assume all of the worlds religions and beliefs are wrong. Lets assume its something nobody has EVER heard of...like...a giant ethereal octopus made of radio antennas who demands worship in the form of tiny boats covered in high fructose corn syrup.

Now, if that were true, nobody could say they respected our octopus overlord because nobody knows he exists.

All this is meant to lead you into wondering - For the very first person to communicate with something supernatural, how did they do it?

Something to think about. Something...strange...to think about...but still.  When youre done thinking about it make sure to send me your thoughts. Here, the facebook, the youtube, whatever you prefer. I'll be listening and thanks again to everyone to suggestions and support.

Recent results, future plans, Holder requests

If you read last weeks blog post you might have expected some black mirror scrying as the next experiment. Sorry, I have to wait until the full moon. My mistake. So I switched things up last weekend and went with a recent suggestion for a Bloody Mary process that I had not tried before.

Here is the video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8CKbtfnuvA

You can also go here to read the instructions

http://en.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/1dym5h/how_to_actually_contact_bloody_mary/

Everything went fine aside from a slight mistake that made me repeat the experiment and the fact that I couldnt get the scent of the blood to leave my left hand for hours. It was not very fresh blood.

As for the technical results I did not hear anything or see anything unusual.

This weekend I might be trying something geared towards familiars or elementals. The weekend after we'll have a full moon on a Saturday night and I'll be able to attempt the enchantment of a black mirror for scrying.

As for the distant future I recently have had a couple suggestions from subscribers that I should try the Holder series.

http://theholders.org/?The_Holder_of_the_End

You can get an idea from reading that.

So basically I'd be visiting a legitimate mental institution. I'd be approaching the front desk and saying a specific phrase. I'd record my asking and their response. The nearest major institution I could find is about 90 minutes away so its no short drive but I might be able to catch one on-the-way to something else. I'll try to keep my eyes open and remember to watch for mental institutions.

As always let me know your thoughts on everything. I really do value the feedback from everyone.

Slenderman experiment results and black mirror scrying thoughts

The most recent experiment was a suggestion I received a few times in the last couple of weeks. It was simply to find some woods, walk into said woods, then taunt the character Slenderman.

You can watch the entire video below.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXCuSdpZypY as a link. Because the blogger video insert isnt picking up my video on youtube. No idea why but hey, you can trust me, click the link.

Now I want to stress once more that I'm aware Slenderman is a fictional creation in the same sense as many other horror film/game/book characters. With that obligatory statement out of the way hopefully this example is evident of the fact that readers/watchers can suggest ANYTHING they firmly believe is paranormal and it still has a good chance of getting due thought and attention.

That leprechaun legend is not too whimsical to suggest.

You should absolutely let me know about that ritual you believe is too dangerous.

That technique for communicating with the dead you heard about? Tell me.

Doesnt matter if youre a history professor suggesting a grimoire to me or if youre 14 and letting me know about some Halloween game you overheard after class.

Jokes aside, nothing is too much or too little. Worst case scenario is that your suggestion goes to the bottom of my list and it takes me 2 years to finally attempt. So please, never hold back on the suggestions. Especially if its because youre worried about my physical well being, sanity, or think it would be so frightening I couldnt handle it.

Moving on to a possible experiment for tomorrow night. Scrying. 'Black Mirror Scrying' to be exact. There are lots of different takes on this one. LOTS. At least as many different incarnations as Bloody Mary for example. Most of the differences lie in the way you enchant or consecrate the mirror to give it the power to show you the future in some way.

If I dont find a better suggestion from the thread I'll be making soon then I'll likely go with a black mirror experiment of some sort.

I want to go ahead and mention another interesting experiment I read about recently.

I was flipping through Volume 1 of Man, Myth, and Magic. When I was reading through the section on Africa I came across a ritual that sounded interesting for whenever I get the funds to make a trip to Africa. The ritual is as follows:

Cut off the head of a snake and in it plant the seed of the swamp dock. Bury the head in a grave which must be seven days old. Pour water on it for three consecutive nights. When the plant has grown to a height of three or four feet, go again to the graveyard and strip naked. Pull up the swamp dock and use it as a girdle. If anyone attempts to attack you, the girdle will become a snake that will bite your enemy.

Now this really interests me. I could go there, interview locals, (the book says the particular formula comes from northern Nigera) and attempt the experiment as well. I imagine I'd have to clarify a few things. For example it doesnt say if the grave must be a persons grave, a grave you dug for the snake then let sit for 7 days, etc. It would also be interesting to find a way to simulate a genuine "attack" from an "enemy". I can think of a few ways that arent much different than the "start a fight" homework scene in Fightclub but I'm sure there is a better way. It will take some thought.

..and the 37th Rule is dont screw with guys wearing swamp dock girdles.

Another experiment popped in my head when I was reading about early alphabets and runes. I'll elaborate on that next time though. As always let me know your thoughts everyone!

Salt Selling at Machpelah Cemetery + Power Outtage Delay + Thoughts on Slenderman suggestion

First things first, the salt selling at Machpelah Cemetery was last weeks experiment. You can watch it below if you like.

Ignore the fact that the video thumbnail looks like cocaine o'clock. Its salt of course, unfortunately though I didnt manage to sell any. I heard a lot of different noises in the dark and without being able to look around I simply had to assume as to the cause for most of them. Many were obvious, dogs barking, cats, even cows. I heard gunshots at least 3 times. Theyre easily recognized if you grow up in an area with lots of hunting like a small country town in Missouri. The only noise I heard that I wasnt able to easily explain was the occasional short moments where I heard what I could only describe as a dog panting.

At one point I literally readied myself to play friendly with some stray that I thought had wandered into the cemetery. The stray never showed up though. I couldnt turn around and look for a dog of course so its possible, in theory, that a dog did wander up and sit down beside me then pant for fleeting moments once every 45 minutes for a couple hours.

Thats one option, another is that I simply misheard and misidentified the sound. On the far other side is the possibility that the sound is of a paranormal or supernatural origin. I couldnt hear it back on the video at all so there is no evidence to present. At the least this leaves me with a sliver of doubt in myself but I'll return to Machpelah eventually and see if an encore is possible or not.

In before ghost dog. It had to be said.

The next point to address is the reason why this blog post was not up on Friday evening like normal and why I still havent recorded an experiment for this weekend. That reason is a near record setting cold spell for May in North-West Missouri. We actually had snow and it caused enough of a problem that our electricity was down and out for almost 2 days. Sorry for the delay.

The next issue I wanted to discuss was a couple recent suggestions I've had on the most recent experiment's comments over at youtube. They are directly quoted as follows:

"Go Slender-Man hunting! In a near by forest for at least 45 minutes late at night with a flashlight."

"Start walking at 12:00pm and maybe tell ghost/slender stories while you are exploring"

"Yeah you should go looking for slender in your closest forest with only a torch. This vid would be awesome"

" I agree with the Slender-Man hunt."

Now 2 of those are from the same person but its still 3 different people suggesting the same experiment. That is actually a considerable number compared to how many I usually hear together. You'd think 600 subscribers would mean maybe 40 at a time asking for One Man Hide and Seek but no, its usually just 2 or 3 at a time per different experiment.

Now I know that some are going to say Slender Man is a work of fiction in the same vein as any horror movie icon like Freddy or Jason. I dont think anyone would suggest I try making myself terrified of Freddy then sleeping or looking for a huge guy in a hockey mask at anywhere named Camp Crystal Lake. Regardless there is also the argument that far more people believe in Slender Man than actually believe in the mainstream Hollywood horror creations.

The online spread of Slender Man gives it more credibility and believability in many peoples eyes and because of that some can argue that Slender Man exists as a thought form. Some type of collective fear-fueled tulpa. Not far from Freddy's movie description in some ways.

Like Tinkerbell but with extreme mental anguish.

Because of that paired with the requests and the fact that ignoring it would only seem bias (plus I am pressed for time this weekend due to the power issues) I will likely be attempting this one soon.

Let me know your thoughts on how I should go about it and any other ideas you have about the experiment.
